Quilt for Vets Quilt Show and Country Fair!

On Saturday, September 23rd, Fabrik Emporium hosted the Quilt for Vet's Quilt Show and Country Fair.  It was a difficult task since the Fabrik Emporium is a very rural town in a rural city in a rural county!!!!  We decided that the splashier and more people involved, the more people would attend.

We had 50 quilts made specifically for the Korean War Vets of Wayne County TN.  Each was different, each was lovingly made and a work of art!

Success--many people came for the show and enjoyed the opening ceremonies honoring our vets!!!  Some Korean War vets came to admire the quilts they are to receive on Veteran's Day.  Most of all it was a patriotic celebration honoring our men and women in the service!  The American Legion presented the colors, bagpiper Dennis McMaster played the national anthem, Steve Allbrook, senior advisor to Congresswomen Marsha Blackburn, State Representative David Byrd and County  Executive Jim Mangubat all spoke!

To add to the festivities, we had wonderful music--Gospel Singer Murray Paul Gordon and the Bluegrass Group Picken Crows who both donated their time to our event--thank you all so much.  We had the premier Canjun Food Vendor in our county Dewey's Cajun Shack serving up Cajun food like alligator bites--yummy actually!!!

Then a wonderful selection of vendors completed the day.  Folks enjoyed visiting with community organizations like our Clifton FCE, Butterfly Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, Ladies in Pink, Red Hatters as well as many crafters . . . .  fun, fun, fun!

It was a great day and an honor for us to honor our vets with the show and fair.  So tired, but so satisfied!!!  Patriotism is not dead in Wayne County, TN!!!!

Vet Quilts and Floating Star Blocks

Today we are working on floating star blocks for Vet quilts.

We had a quilt presentation this week. He is a WWII Vet, he was in the Navy, received the Bronze Star along with other awards. He was very humbled that we honored him.
Here are the quilts that we finished this week.

We have 17 quilts completely finished, 30+ tops made.  September 23 is approaching fast and we need to get busy.

SEW DAY - VET QUILTS

Today we had 6 quilters come out to make quilts for the Vets in Wayne  County, TN. Our youngest was 11 years old. She did a great job sewing on drawn lines for 1/2 square triangles!

We made enough 1/2 square triangles to make a 60x70 inch quilt.

Miss L did all the pressing for us. She is 87 years young. She left early so she could get home and mow her yard.

New quilters learning to unstitch mistakes and how to use a rotary cutter.

If you are ever in our area we'd love for you to stop by the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

We've been busy...

Our small group of quilters have been busy - here are a few quilts we have recently finished..
Not sure why some of the blocks look reddish..
We are so proud of the process our beginner quilters are making

This project of making 50 quilts for our county's Vets has been very rewarding. We are meeting a lot of the local merchants - the "Movers and Shakers" of our county. Everyone we have spoken to seems to appreciate what we are doing for the Vets. We have even been given some donations which we have spent on batting and a bit of fabric.

Quilts For Vets

We are a small group of quilters making red, white and blue quilts to give to each Vet in Wayne County, TN. Quite a few of the quilters are beginners. Our goal is to make 50 quilts to be given out on Veteran's Day this year.

We have about 30 tops made and 8 are totally finished.

Last year we gave quilts to WWII Vets, POWs, Purple Heart recipients. This year we will honor Korean Vets and any Vet who becomes critically ill.

After last year's presentation we had some requests to see the quilts before they were given out. This year we are planning a quilt show, maybe a better phrase would be a "Quilt Show Event" to showcase these quilts.

We have invited state government officials (invites have been accepted), local officials, a local country band has offered to play, two chapters of the American Legion, crafts, food, flag ceremony, and what ever else we can think of adding.  Almost sounds like a "County Fair"!

We have given out 3 quilts this year. One at a bridge dedication for a POW and two for critically ill Vets.

Here are a couple of recent quilts we have made -

We even have a four generation family helping us make quilts! As most of our quilters are beginners we started them off with string blocks. I think they are enjoying themselves as they keep coming back...

I have a quilt shop (Fabrik Emporium) in Waynesboro, TN where we meet twice a month to work on our quilts.
